Growing up, I attended Light and Love Home's Summer Day Camp every year. It was a wonderful environment to make new friends and learn new skills — including coding! When I started 6th grade, I had the opportunity to volunteer as a teacher's assistant, where I learned how to take initiative and work as a team. Teaching classes myself was daunting at first, but I slowly grew more confident and engaging with students. I'm grateful for the leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills I've developed through this experience. And every year I return to summer camp, I look forward to seeing all the students again!

My journey here started as a student, to volunteering as a TA, to now volunteering as a teacher. Spanning over the past 15 years, much has changed and I have learned a lot.

To me teaching is about having a fun environment. Through teaching cooking class, physical education, and educational activity, it has taught me time management, communication and how to leave lasting memories. There have been many students over the years and it has been a joy teaching them.

Before I joined day camp I was shy and didn't like to talk to others. As a student I learned how to make friends and have good morals. Now as a volunteer I am able to give back to the community as a TA and a teacher. I gained confidence to become a leader, take initiative, and talk to those that are feeling alone. I learned how to share my knowledge, attention, and kindness with others instead of keeping it for myself. The day camp helped me to become mature.
